Albert Swafford, MD is a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon. In addition, he is an experienced med-legal expert in civil litigation and a certified Qualified Medical Evaluator. He specialized in evaluating and treating upper extremity conditions including the shoulder, elbow, wrist, and hand.
Dr. Swafford has been on the faculty of three orthopedic departments; Armed Forces College of Medicine, Jacksonville, University of Tennessee Memphis, and University of California Irvine. He has contributed to several academic and scientific studies. Dr. Swafford has presented for numerous prestigious organizations, including the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, the American Association for Hand Surgery, the North American Arthroscopic Association, the Japanese Society for Surgery of the Hand, the Society of Military Surgeons, and the International College of Surgeons. The studies were published in numerous journals. He has pioneered the gold standard technique for supra-scapular nerve entrapment, mid-carpal instability, and arthroscopic resurfacing of the CMC of the thumb.
In addition to running a private practice, Dr. Swafford was actively involved with the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, serving on multiple committees. He also pursued his passion for aviation, a skill he learned during Naval service, flying a classic Mig to various airshows.
