Marc Shomer, MD, PhD is a UCLA-trained, board-certified comprehensive ophthalmologist with more than 20 years of experience in cataract surgery, glaucoma management, and complex ocular disease. He serves as a Clinical Instructor of Ophthalmology at the Doheny Eye Institute (USC), where he has trained residents in both foundational and advanced cataract surgery since 2009. His teaching focuses on surgical precision, sound clinical judgment, and evidence-based standards of care.

Dr. Shomer’s surgical background includes extensive experience with premium intraocular lens implantation, femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery, minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS), complex lens exchange and reconstruction, and the management of macular degeneration and other advanced ocular conditions. His depth of clinical experience, combined with research training, supports careful, objective evaluation of ophthalmic injury, disease progression, causation, and the appropriateness of treatment.

Known for his calm demeanor and meticulous attention to detail, Dr. Shomer is a trusted evaluator for attorneys on both sides. In addition to his clinical practice, he is formally credentialed by the State of California as a Qualified Medical Examiner.  His combination of clinical acumen and research-based insight allows him to deliver objective, well-supported opinions in complex med-legal evaluations.
