Nathaniel Schuster, MD

Nathaniel Schuster, MD, is a board-certified, fellowship-trained neurologist and pain and headache specialist, as well as a Qualified Medical Evaluator (QME) based in Southern California.  His practice focuses on the evaluation and treatment of a wide range of chronic pain conditions, with particular expertise in spine-related pain and headache disorders.

Dr. Schuster is a Pain and Headache Neurologist and serves as Associate Clinic Director. He was principal investigator on the first placebo-controlled study of vaporized cannabis for acute migraine and is currently launched an NFL-funded randomized controlled trial studying treatments of persistent post-traumatic headache in elite athletes. He speaks widely at pain, headache, and neurology conferences.   He received the Migraine Research Foundation 2018 Impact Award to perform the first placebo-controlled trial of cannabis for acute migraine. He is a section editor for a Neuropathic Pain section of the journal Pain Medicine, the official journal of the American Academy of Pain Medicine. His research focuses on clinical trials for headache and pain.

He is a member and holds leadership positions in numerous medical communities and associations. He serves on the Board of Directors of the American Academy of Pain Medicine, as Vice Chair of the Guidelines Committee for the International Pain and Spine Intervention Society, and as Senior Vice President of the World Headache Society.

Dr. Schuster has extensive clinical and medicolegal experience and is available for expert witness services and evaluations across the state of California.
